For her first-ever presentation at the Venice Biennale, Nan Goldin created a new version of Sirens (2019–2021). In this work, Goldin juxtaposed selected scenes from thirty of her favorite films with a new score by Mica Levi. While Goldin’s film presents a glamorous and romantic rendition of the pleasure of being high, its title alludes to the possible peril of opiate use and the difficulty of escaping its grasp.⁠
