Tavares Strachan Powerhouse Parramatta
As part of Powerhouse Parramatta, a 23-day inaugural arts festival celebrating the largest museum group in Australia, Tavares Strachan illuminates the lives and stories of trailblazers omitted from history, and explores the question: What will it take for humans to live in space?
Event: The Future of the Dark | Session: Seeing in the Dark | 1 pm
Task Eternal, an aerospace exhibition, will feature space wear from B.A.S.E.C (Bahamas Aerospace and Sea Exploration Center) designed by Tavares and Ella Strachan, and sculpture memorializing Robert Henry Lawrence Jr (1935–67) – the first African American astronaut selected for the US Air Force’s Manned Orbiting Laboratory program in 1967.
Talk: Off Earth | 2 pm
Space architect Melodie Yashar, artist and engineer Xin Liu, Metakosmos CEO Kiriti Rambhatla and Strachan come together for a conversation about how living beyond Earth will transform our idea of home, from space stations to permanent lunar habitats and, ultimately, Mars.
