Artist's Talk
Nairy Baghramian in Conversation with Elena Filipovic Art Basel
Best known for her large-scale abstract sculptures, Berlin-based artist Nairy Baghramian has developed a distinct language of combining loosely organic forms with geometric support structures in works that invites viewers to reconsider their sense of self, space, object and site. A Gold Awardee in the Established Artist category of the Art Basel Awards in 2025, she has been entrusted with Art Basel’s annual commission for Messeplatz. She sits down with Elena Filipovic, director of Kunstmuseum Basel and a jury member for the awards, to discuss Modèle vivant (S’empilant) (2026), her site-responsive sculptural grouping designed for the square’s fountain – the latest iteration in a practice marked by relentless experimentation, historical acuity and conceptual rigor.
