Adrián Villar Rojas - The End of Imagination Bogotá Biennial 2025

The End of Imagination is an ongoing film project which monitors, gathers, and compiles real-time video footage from public webstream cameras to ultimately create a full-length movie. The footage was captured from web-cameras all around the globe, as well as outer space, with video from the Moon and Mars. The artist and his team began collecting recorded material at the beginning of 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and its corresponding mobility restrictions due to quarantine.

From March 2020 to March 2021, a team of five equipped with eight computers worked daily to research and observe these vast points of view, the accumulation of which now reaches approximately 16,000 hours of recorded video.

The team manually monitored these cameras without assistance from algorithms, operating as if actively filming a documentary with ‘real cameras’ on the streets from Lebanon to NYC, imbuing the footage with an almost performative quality.
