OUT OF SIGHT is a generic structure by Lawrence Weiner currently installed at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. It is based upon the concept of a hopscotch and designed for public institutions, OUT OF SIGHT is flexible. The work is conceived to be exhibited in multiple languages.
At PAMM, the work is installed in a bilingual English-Spanish presentation.
The work of Giuseppe Penone will be the subject of the first exhibition of contemporary art at the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, Fendi’s headquarters.
The exhibition, titled Matrice will include some of Penone’s older works such as Soffio di Foglie, a huge pile of leaves on which the artist has left an imprint of his body, Abete, Ripetere II Bosco, and Spine d’Acacia, made entirely of thorns and which resembles the lines of the artist’s mouth. There will also be two new pieces, including a 30m-long horizontal sculpture, formed from a tree that has been excavated and the interior filled with a bronze mold, and which will occupy an entire wing of the building. The outside space will feature a momentous sculpture of two bronze and marble trees.
Richard Deacon has been awarded the Ernst Franz Vogelmann Prize for Sculpture, given jointly by Städtische Museen Heilbronn (Municipal Museums Heilbronn) and the Ernst Franz Vogelmann Stiftung (Ernst Franz Vogelmann Foundation), both based in Heilbronn, Germany. The prize will also include a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Vogelmann in autumn 2017.
This exhibition will feature four of Dijkstra’s portraits of adolescents, as well as a 1991 self-portrait that inspired much of her later work. It is timed to coincide with the installation of I See a Woman Crying (Weeping Woman), a three-channel video of British schoolchildren talking about Picasso’s painting Weeping Woman, on view in the East Building’s display of Collectors Committee gifts.
The artist will also be giving a talk at the museum on January 15 at 2pm.
The Dutch Culture Minister, Dr Jet Bussemaker, has selected film director and visual artist Steve McQueen as the recipient of this year’s Johannes Vermeer Award, the Dutch annual state prize for the arts.
The jury, chaired by Ernst Hirsch Ballin, unanimously nominated McQueen for his profound and enduring examination of the human condition in his film and video works, which often depict people struggling to preserve their dignity in circumstances of repression.
Danh Vo presents a series of compelling new sculptures as part of his first outdoor installation in the Ng Teng Fong Roof Garden Gallery at the National Gallery Singapore. Vo’s work often draws upon personal experience to explore broader historical, social or political themes, particularly those relating to the history of Vietnam at the close of the 20th century. A continuation of his existing practice, this installation explores issues of cross-cultural identity and the definition of cultural values.

Marian Goodman Gallery congratulates Annette Messager on being awarded the 2016 Praemium Imperiale Global Arts Prize, Lifetime Achievement in Sculpture. Since its inauguration in 1989, it has been given annually by the Japan Art Association and has become a mark of the arts.
Steve McQueen will be awarded the 2016 British Film Institute fellowship. It is the highest accolade the BFI Board of Governors can bestow and is given in recognition of his outstanding contribution to film culture, showcased in his range of artworks and three multi-award-winning features, Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave.
It will be presented at the BFI London Film Festival awards ceremony on October 15.
CIMA presents an exhibition exploring the relationship between one of Italy’s greatest living artists, Giulio Paolini, and one of its most celebrated modern masters, the Giorgio de Chirico. Paolini has often expressed his admiration for de Chirico, hailing him as an “illustrious model” and incorporating numerous references to the artist in his own photographs, sculptures, and drawings throughout the course of his career.
CIMA’s show features an ongoing conceptual work by Paolini, Interno metafisico (2009–16), reconceived specifically for CIMA’s galleries, as well as a series of historical and new works related to various tropes in de Chirico’s paintings. The installation also showcases a selection of de Chirico’s most iconic Metaphysical masterworks, on view in the U.S. for the first time since 1970, including most notably Le Muse Inquietanti (The Disquieting Muses) (1918). The exhibition marks the first time the relationship between de Chirico and Paolini has been explored in depth through a focused exhibition; it also represents the first time that CIMA closely examines issues of post-war Italian art.
Anri Sala has been conceiving a project for Teshima during the past three years, since winning the 10th Benesse Prize. The installation entitled ALL OF A TREMBLE will be exhibited in the Teshima Seawall House, where the video footage of both an improvising saxophone and a shakuhachi (a Japanese bamboo flute) resonate gives the impression of the house as an organic entity, pulsing with life.
The once-abandoned house is brought to life, inviting viewers to reflect on the displacement and lives of human beings as well as to physically experience "the meeting of two different worlds" -- outside and inside, eastern and western, contrasting instruments, ocean and sky, the artificial and the natural, social and private.
The Kunstmuseum Stuttgart Foundation announced that a jury has awarded Tino Sehgal the 2016 Hans Molfenter Prize, which has been sponsored by the estate of Stuttgart painter Hans Molfenter since 1983. The $18,000 prize honors artists with a connection to Germany’s southwestern region. In addition, Sehgal will create a project in the Stuttgart area, with the date still to be determined.
The City of London’s annual public art program, "Sculpture in the City", places contemporary art works in unexpected locations, providing a visual juxtaposition to the capital’s insurance district.
This year’s edition, the largest to date, will showcase 15 works ranging considerably in scale and will include William Kentridge, in collaboration with Gerhard Marx, and Giuseppe Penone.
Kentridge and Marx will present Fire Walker (2009) on Bishopsgate while Penone will be showing Idee di Pietra – 1372 KG di Luce (2010) in front of Norman Foster’s the Gherkin, St Mary Axe.
