Eija-Liisa Ahtila Daejeon Museum of Art
Eija-Liisa's multi-faceted work entitled "Potentiality for Love" (2018), is now on view as part of "Future Cities, Art and Science Biennale 2022," at Daejeon Museum of Art.
One part of the work combines the moving image with twenty-two LED modules. Here, a person is seen floating in space. As she comes near, she takes on monumental proportions and ends up gesturing silently toward the viewers as if to welcome them in good will.
Ahtila uses this giant, universal embrace to evoke the maternal bond linking two human beings from the beginning of life and the point when love is born. It also touches upon the memory of loss and distance, the moment when the possibility for love that rests as potentiality, first emerges.
