Much of Francesca Woodman's work was produced while she was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design (1975-1978) and then while working in Rome; New York City; and the MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire. She had a major posthumous retrospective at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris, France, which traveled to the following institutions, from 1998 to 2002: Kunsthal, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal; The Photographers' Gallery, London, United Kingdom; Centro Cultural TeclaSala, L'Hospitalet, Barcelona; Carla Sozzani Gallery, Milan; The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin; and PhotoEspana, Centro Cultural Conde Duque, Madrid.
